SiGeKo (Safety Coordinator)

Safety and Health Protection Coordinator

When is a SiGeKo required?

There is no direct regulation specifying a fixed number of employees or a specific number of working hours. However, the following rules of thumb apply:

  • When at least 20 workers are present simultaneously on the construction site, the need for detailed safety coordination increases.
  • If the expected construction duration exceeds 30 working days and there are more than 20 employees simultaneously on site, prior notification to the responsible authority is required (§ 2 BaustellV). This often also indicates the need for a SiGeKo.

According to RAB 30, the qualification requirements for the coordinator depend on the type and scope of the construction project.
